Uninstall the printer driver in 10.3.x: Open Applications, and Utilities, and double-click the Printer Setup Utility icon. Printer Setup Utility has a different name, depending on the Mac OS X version. In versions prior to Mac OS X 10.3.x, double-click the Print Center icon. The image below show Mac OS X Ver. This product is a printer driver for Canon IJ printers. Caution Mac OS X v10.5 1. When the monitor resolution is 1024 x 768 or less, as the 'Print' and 'Cancel' buttons are displayed behind DOCK, those buttons cannot be clicked.
Canon Mp470 Printer Driver For Mac
I found v6.9.3 driver for the MP470 via the Canon Australia web site. This version works for other models of 10.5.4 so it should be okay for your model.

Since you have tried a number of other drivers then you may have too much on your Mac that could be causing conflicts. I would navigate to the Mac HD/Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter and trash everything in this folder.
I would also navigate to Mac HD/Library/Receipts and trash the packages named Canon MPxxx.pkg.
If you can then empty the trash this may be helpful.
Then unplug the MP470 USB cable from your Mac and download the driver via the link above. Then mount the disk image and run the installer. This will add the necessary files back onto your Mac.
Restart the Mac and once running again, reconnect the MP470 USB cable to your Mac. The driver software should automatically add the 470 as a printer. Check by opening Print & Fax. If it is not listed, select to Add and choose the Default view. Select the MP470 and watch the Print using menu. It should change to Canon IJ Printer. Note that if it doesn't do this automatically you cannot manually select it. The driver has to find the printer.
Note also that when you select the printer in the default view you may get a message saying that the printer is already installed. Cancel the adding of the printer if this happens. When the Add pane switches back to the printer list you will probably see the 470 - it can take a while for the printer to add automatically to the list.
If the printer still does not work after doing the above then please reply.
Re the ScanGear, this is for scanning from the machine so it is handy having the file but not needed for printing.
